Monster Cable: Monster Price, Monster Legal Department

If you are an avid electronics consumer, you are well aware of Monster Cable Products, as they are sold at many leading retailers throughout the nation, such as Best Buy and Radio Shack.  If you’ve ever bought a TV or audio system at one of those fine establishments, it was likely that the sales associates tried to upsell you on some Monster Cables to go with your purchase.  Chances are you probably freaked out when you saw the price tag.  So how Monster are the cables?  Do they blow away the competition of other HDMI cables that don’t have the “Monster” name or price??

Frankly, the products of Monster Cable are not bad.  They actually are of decent quality, and get the job done when they need to.  However, considering that their prices are at least six to seven times the price of an average, “no-name” HDMI cable (See our prices for comparison here), it is hard to justify prices such as this. For this premium, you must think you are getting the Ferrari/Gucci of HDMI cables.  According to EngadgetHD, the performance between those and Monster Cable were very negligble.

For an average buyer, there is a difference between component and HDMI, as HDMI is the newest technology with better sound and picture qualities.  However, these Monster displays at Fry’s Electronics are short selling the unknowing consumer:

The verdict?

We’ll let you decide if Monster Cables are worth it for your money. However, when deceptive tactics are used to sell products, you have to wonder if the premium is really worth it in this case.
